Over the past few years, the library has developed a BIT Curriculum to provide a shared reference point for the vertical alignment of information/inquiry skills and technology skills, serving as both guideline and synthesis to support instructional planning.

Updated BIT Checklists

Based on feedback from teachers on our Books, Information and Technology curriculum, we created a document that identifies skills students should be well-versed in when they leave 4th grade. We choose to organize this around the 4Cs to better align with a structure teachers are familiar with.

Guided Inquiry Templates

Vision for Guided Inquiry
Guided Inquiry is a sound methodology for designing rigorous research in students, based on Kuhlthau’s information search process. At each stage of the research process, students’ feelings are accounted for, and deliberate structures and interventions allow for teachers to empower their students’ learning. The model honors a collaborative approach to research and learning, as well as deep reflection about their research.
Guided Inquiry Templates Folder These Guided Inquiry Templates are created for CCPCS staff in Google Drive, based on the Guided Inquiry Framework designed by Kulthau.
OPEN: Identifying an Inquiry Question with a Criteria In this phase, students open their inquiry process by coming up with inquiry questions and reviewing them against a criteria.
EXPLORE: Research Credible Sources In this phase, students research online sources and ask a series of questions to identify whether or not the sources are credible.
EVALUATE: Self Reflection on Inquiry The final step provides the opportunity for you to reflect upon the research process. Consider the following questions during your reflection: 1. What did you find to be the most difficult? 2. What would you do differently next time?
IDENTIFY & GATHER: Inquiry Log In this phase, students gather resources, identify whether they will be useful for the final inquiry and take notes on their subject.
GATHER: Inquiry Journal In this phase, students go deep in their selected resources. This journal exercise helps students write about the important ideas you find when they Go Deep into a resource.
Other: BCPS K12 Guided Inquiry Resources For middle school students, Baltimore County Public Schools has selected the Guided Inquiry Research Process Model. It is a highly flexible model that will help guide you through all parts of a research project.

Learning.com Easy Tech Scope and Sequence for K-8
This curriculum will be adopted by the library team for the 1718 school year. This table provides an at-a-glance look at the digital literacy skills covered by Learning.com's EasyTech and students’ progression across the Kindergarten to Eighth grade levels. Use this document to determine the most appropriate grade level(s) to introduce technology skills.
