Three Star Book Awards: Home

3 Star Book Awards

The Three Stars Book Award is a project of the District of Columbia Library Association: School Library Section, local librarians, and reading advocates. The inaugural award was given in 2017. Voting for the Three Stars Book Award takes place in May and June and is open to students who live or go to school in Washington, DC.

We strive to recognize books that incorporate diversity, multiculturalism, and other curricular connections as a means to connect reading to learning while building a culture of reading across DC schools. Nominees are chosen by a committee based on readers' interests and requests. Winners are chosen by students and readers across the district.

DC Battle of the Books

District's Battle Of The Books

The BOB (Battle of the Books) is a district-wide reading motivation program based upon the current Three Stars nominated titles.  This program is sponsored by DCLA SLS (District of Columbia Library Association School Library Section).  Students in 4th-8th grades participate in this competition by simply reading the Three Stars titles listed on the DCLA SLS website and answering questions.

DCLA SLS’s BOB mission is to encourage a culture of reading and introduce students to new and exciting titles that they might not normally read.
