CCPCS Library: The Nest

About the Nest

After winning the CTE Makeover Challenge put on by the Department of Education in June of 2016, we were supported with resources to launch our makerspace.

What’s in the Nest? Watch the video below for a start, and check out our Tools and Resources to learn more.

Makerspace Vision

Capital City Public Charter School’s makerspace will be the centralized hub of experiential learning, innovation, and 21st century skill building in the school. It will be a joyous, inspiring space, allowing their 659 students in 5th-12th grade to create physical or digital objects that bring concepts to life. The makerspace will set Capital City apart as a place not only to learn, but also as a place for students to gain independence, creativity, and STEAM skills.

Hours and Availability

Hours & Availability:

The Nest is not an open, reservable resource in the same way as other classrooms or the breakout space.

Because the equipment in the makerspace is expensive, we ask that teachers and students hoping to use our more complicated tools and resources attend certification training with the library team, or work with the library team to develop lessons and procedures for specific projects.

Teachers:

Teachers are always welcome to tour the Nest, or even hold team meetings in the space to make use of the fabrication resources for prototyping and planning.

Please email cclibrary [at] ccpcs.org if you would like to reserve the makerspace for a meeting, or if you would like schedule a tour.

For Students

If teachers would like to use the space with students, contact cclibrary [at] ccpcs.org  within 24 hours to reserve a space, ensure a librarian is available to host the class, and discuss what resources are available for the project. Giving us more advanced notice that you would like to use the space for a lesson will guarantee that we will have all the resources you need.

Makerspace Badges

Become certified to use equipment in the Nest by earning badges through District of Learning. Below are some of the badges we recognize at Capital City PCS.

Follow these directions in order to create a District of Learning account.
